Elizabeth CHAMBERS arrived in Sydney as a Convict on the ship 'Kitty' on 18 Novemember 1792

Many researchers have recorded Elizabeth as being born in Holborn, London in 1762 or 1763. However the Society of Australian Genealogists states Elizabeth was 23 years of age at the time of her trial on 26 Oct 1791. Therefore, she would have supposedly been born in 1768? However, her age at time of death is 78 years (therefore born about 1760).

Elizabeth was sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing property belonging to her employer & pawning it, then possibly setting fire to the premises. She arrived in Sydney on ship 'Kitty' in Sydney on 18 Novemember 1792 which departed Portsmouth, Ham, England on 6 April 1792. See Convict Indents - AO Fiche 614, p.76.

Elizabeth married Henry LAMB (born 1758 in Staindrop, Durham, England) on
27 JAN 1811 in St. Matthews Church of England, Windsor NSW Australia.
Henry and Elizabeth had a family of three children,
i. Rebecca LAMB b. 19 Nov 1797 my direct ancestor married John EZZEY.
ii. Henry (Harry) LAMB b. 1800 married (1) Charlotte BOGG and had two sons (2) Mary Ann BENTLEY and had three sons.
iii.John LAMB, b. 1803, Portland Head NSW Australia, d. 1849, NSW Australia

Elizabeth died at 'Newington' on Christmas Eve of 1838, and Henry survived her by only a few weeks.

"Convicts to NSW 1788-1812" Cd-Rom Published by Society of Australian Genealogists states that Elizabeth was 23 years of age at the time of her trial. It also states "Delivery of the Kings Gaol of Newgate" Reference 4/4002 pp 1-22. Reference : Indents - SAG Ref. 15244

402. ELIZABETH CHAMBERS was indicted for stealing, on the 22d of October, one woollen cloth coat, value 40 s. one Marseilles waistcoat, value 3 s. one cotton ditto, value 3 s. one pair of velveret breeches, value 3 s. one pair of sattinet ditto, value 10 s. a muslin handkerchief, value 1 s. two pair of hose, value 18 d. the property of William Kinslen; and one pair of cotton stockings, value 2 s. the property of Robert Howden.

WILLIAM KINSLEN sworn.
My house is in Aldersgate-street, opposite Little Britain; I came home about nine last Saturday evening; I found my two pair of stairs front room on fire. The prisoner was my servant; I suspected her of stealing several things. I had her taken up as soon as I had put the fire out. She was going to bed; I found in one of her shoes fourteen duplicates; her bed-room is one pair of stairs above the room that was on fire. I found many of my things upon examining at the pawnbroker's.

WILLIAM THOMPSON sworn.
I am an apprentice; I know the prisoner; she pledged a pair of breeches with me the 7th of September, a pair of stockings for 9 d. the 20th of September; the breeches are velveteen, the stockings are worsted; a coat for 6 s. 2 d. the 24th of September, and two waistcoats for 6 s.

Prosecutor. I never gave the prisoner leave to pawn any thing for me. (The clothes produced.)

ANN HOWDEN sworn.
I have mended my father's stockings; those stockings are mine. (The prosecutor deposes to the coat.)
I have had the coat twelve months; I am sure it is mine. (Prosecutor deposes to the waistcoat.)

Prisoner. I leave myself to the mercy of the Jury.
GUILTY. Transported for seven years. Tried by the London Jury before Mr. RECORDER.
